Lost & Found

This is the story of how Doris lost items with extreme sentimental value today. First, here is the little bag ...

... which holds fabulous little items: tiny scissors with fancy strawberry scissor weight (queen stitches on 40-count), a little emery, various scraps of paper including something Bekah scribbled on at age 3 ...
... and fits inside other larger bags that have been dragged hither and yon for 15 years or so without incident (except for that time the smiling-but-evil security lady in Bermuda took away the scissors I forgot to put in checked luggage) ...

... so I can take my projects wherever I like.

So what's all of this leading to? This morning I had to have my car serviced, so I took ATS for two hours of stitchy entertainment while I was waiting. In my haste to get from the waiting room to the cashier (hurrying to pay?), I left the little bag at the auto dealership (gasp!). I know! When I figured it out, I felt faint. I called and no one had seen it. So I got in my little car and returned to the dealership, went into the waiting room (interrupting a sales pitch), looked in the little drawers of the table I was sitting next to, and there it was (huge sigh of relief)! Whew! Another crisis averted. Now, do you think I should consider removing some of the little items in case this happens again? Or do you think this has been a large enough lesson to teach me to pay attention? I'm thinking it over. I was extremely lucky/fortunate/blessed to find my little bag almost exactly where I left it.

I shared this little story with you, because I need to slow down and think. Since the last day of school, I've had many trips and falls and spills (I'll spare you the injury list) and forgotten items as I've run and skipped and rushed around without really thinking. My sister asked me how I got a particular scab, and I said, "I jumped up ..." And she said, "Now see there? Why do you have to jump up? Can't you just stand up?" I think I'd better settle for a slower speed of life. I could pace myself. And that, kids, is the lesson for today ...

A quick and happy report before I go: Mom is stitching again, which means she's feeling pretty good. Thank you again for all of your thoughtful messages and prayers.

Hi Doris -
Just dropping a line to say I am glad your Mum is feeling better, and that yes, maybe you should slow down, but on the other hand, if jumping up and down and running here and there makes you happy - why change anything ? Just make sure you hang to that little pocket... ;-)

I am so glad your mom is feeling a bit better! I don't know... if I tried to slow down, I'd probably hurt myself more. I'm one that also runs at a breakneck pace. Seems as clutzy as I am, if I'm too deliberate it's worse. Of course, you do need to slow down sometimes just to enjoy the view, smell the flowers or enjoy a quiet stitching moment.

You should be spinning, jumping and singing with delight at any moment - ATS is ALMOST done. YEAH!!!

I'm glad that you found your little bag. I know that if I lost something that sentimental to me I would just cry. That's great that your mom is feeling better and it stitching again. I hope she continues to feel good.

Wow Doris, I can sympathize with you. I was stitching one of the Mirabilia angels, took it for show and tell, and left it at the restaurant. I did find it, but man, I was sweating bullets. I think that the older we get we just have much more to do, get more easily distracted because of that to do list. I jump up and fly all the time - I tell myself I'm going to have a heart attack or pass out from the quick activity! Glad that you found your bag though. I'd keep carrying it around and not remove anything! And also very glad to hear that your mom is feeling better.

Looking forward to seeing your ATS finish!!

First of all, Doris, what an ever so sweet lil almost lost bag! And nice larger bag too. I am so glad you found it, that would been heartbreaking to have lost it forever.

I guess you should examine, what is it that is causing the breakneck speed, jumping up and hurrying...if it is stress, then try and take it more easy. But like others have said, these days are more frantic, it seems, with much activity, places to go and be!!

Wow, so close on ATS and more importantly that your mom is feeling better enough to stitch again! Cheering here in Indiana! Give her our love!!

I would say keep carrying your treasured items but to slow down and enjoy the fact that they are with you ... then, if they aren't, you'll notice immediately.

I've also been rushing around like someone who has lost her wits lately. Hoping life will slow down a tad after next week, when the kids' summer break begins. Fingers crossed....

My goodness, your heart must have stopped when you realized you didn't have your precious bag!!! I'm so glad you found it and everyting intact!

I am always rushing around too. Seems like there just isn't enough hours in the day to get everything that I "want" to done!!!

Glad to hear that your mom feels well enough to stitch, that is Good News!!!

Well I, for one, would like to think that some lovely stitcher was in the waiting room right after you and said "Oh dear, one of my fellow stitchy friends must have left this little treasure in her haste to get the heck outta' here. I'll just put it in this drawer for safekeeping so that she can come back to retreive it and all will be well." Thank you stitchy karma!

P.S. Drop a little card inside with your name and info and "Reward offered for safe return if lost". Just a thought.

OH! And Woo Hoo for your Mom! I am so glad that she is feeling better, but I'm going to keep the happy thoughts a'coming your way. Okie Dokey?

(See? I was in such a rush to send you my comment that I hit the send thingie prematurely. Could it be something in the air? A full moon? Planetary alignment?)

Glad to hear your Mom is feeling better, and that you recovered your precious stitchy things. You're right, all those little bumps and things are signs to slow down.

I'm so glad to hear that your mother is feeling up to stitching. Woohoo! I am sure it will help calm her mind, too. :)

Phew! I'm glad that your bag was where you'd left it. Sometimes when I get too rushed like that I need to tell myself to stop before I cut too many corners in my haste & cause serious problems. I guess everybody needs a little reminder to slow down now & then!

So glad to hear about your mother feeling better.
Oh girl, just get a glass of wine and that will slow you down a little......LOL
I'm the same way though. But days like today, I'm off and I slept hours to make up for the week's rush.
I'm so so glad you found your bag. I can only imagine how precious that bag is with your little girls drawings.

Lucky you to have found your little precious bag where you left it. This happened to me once with my purse (and the CC inside). I nearly fainted when I realized that I had left it next to a telephone in a university office. But found it again hours later at the same place and nothing had been taken out.
So glad to read that you mom is doing great and is stitching again.

Glad your mother is feeling better, Doris! And now it's time, as you said yourself, to take a step back and take care of you. I ran out of breath just reading your blog post!

It does appear that taking a breath and slowing the pace a bit would be in your best interest, Doris!! :) I'm so glad your stitching pocket was just where you left it and that your mom is doing better!

Ok, that's scary that you almost lost your stitching bag! I know the feeling of go go go -- it's hard to slow down. I've just discovered your blog so I don't know the history, but it's good to hear your mom is doing well.
