Reed's Last Week

The final stitches were in on Thursday night, and the charms and buttons were put on today. First, a picture without the embellishments ...

And here's a picture with all the fun stuff ...

I'm very happy to have it stitched, and it'll be going off to the finisher as soon as I find a moment next week. This really was the quickest I've ever stitched a stocking, and I have to hand it to all of you who helped me with fun comments. Especially thanks to Anna for lighting the initial fire under me. For the moment, I can say I'm a good mom-in-law, which still sounds funny to me.

As I said I would, I've picked up Shores to start on Block 3. It had to wait a while, because I had some chores to do. There were the usual things (laundry, cleaning, etc.) that we all do, but another chore had to be done a little early this year. It was 18 degrees when I woke up this morning (brrr!), so I had to put my comforter on the bed. To do that, I had to press the cover and wrestle it onto the comforter, press the matching pillow shams and put them on, and then wash the stuff that came off the bed. I know! All just to keep cozy on cold nights. Now you watch ... we'll probably have some nights in the 40's this week, and I'll be wondering what the hell I was in such a hurry about.

You know, I never know when I'm gonna write something here that causes someone out there to come up with a good idea. When I wrote about my plan to stitch in my jammies next Friday morning, Staci, stitcher/knitter/enabler extraordinaire, asked what I'll be starting that day! Is she naughty, or what? I hadn't even thought of starting something new, and I'm not sure I can bring myself to do it. But Staci's suggestion made me think about putting Shores down for the morning and working on something different. Heaven knows, I have lots and lots of WIPs to choose from, so I'll have to pick out something interesting. Maybe something that might be finished in a few hours.

On the health front, the poor little kids have been dropping like flies at school. Most of the second grade was out the first half of the week, and then a lot of the first grade was out later in the week. So many of us are coughing at school that I did extra wipe-downs of the tables and Lysol-spraying of pencils and shared books, computers and doorknobs. I'm staying home this weekend with some unidentified virus that, knock on wood, has only made me cough and have a headache. My doc who roto-rootered my nose last January fixed me up yesterday to try to head it off at the pass, and I feel relatively well. The bad news: no time with Mom or the man I hang around with. The good news: it's a nice weekend to be at home stitching. It's ugly out there! Everyone stay well and make some fun.

Well lookie at you! Grady's stocking is absolutely adorable! Did it even take a week? I think, that since you finished it so quickly, you've definitely earned a new project for Friday :)

Hope you are feeling better right away...stay warm!

I love your stocking finish! Can't wait to see it finished as a stocking! Hope you're feeling better soon. Such a bummer to be sick, but I guess it's a good way to get some stitching in. :D

Great job on the stocking, Doris! It really looks beautiful!!! I'm sorry you're not feeling well but glad it's not so bad as to keep you from stitching!

I knew you could do it! Yay you! It's great, but it makes me realize I haven't been working on Reed's stocking even though I kept calling it that. Poor Brett.

Your stocking is darling! I just love these SB stockings, but I've never done one. You make me want to try.
Hope you get feeling better. It seems there are so many people I know that are sick right now. At least you can stitch, right?
Take Care.

I love the stocking!! The colors look so soft. I love all the SB stockings, but have never thought abot stitching one up. Yours is so inspiring to me. I think I may have to venture up to SB and take a second look at those stocking patterns. Hope you get feeling better real soon, take care of yourself.

Doris,
Congratulations! Your stocking looks fabulous and look how quickly you stitched it. Can't wait to see it finished-finished. :) I have yet to start block 3 but I am hoping to get it in (or at least started) before October is over. There are so many new things catching my eye, I have a hard time buckling down to the things I already have going. I do think you deserve a new start on Friday/Jammie day. You will have to let us know what you decide. Hope you are feeling better. It's when the adults at school start getting sick, that you know it is bad. Usually we seem to be more immune because we are exposed to it all of the time. Hopefully the little kids there will be feeling better after a weekend at home as well. Hope you have a good week!

Wow, you stitched that stocking in record time! And it's beautiful. It amazes me that you have the discipline to not start anything completely new (you know, something small, instant gratification, that sort of thing)but rather pick up a Monster of Hawk Run Hollow. You're an inspiration, Doris!

I have just bought my first stocking - influenced as I have been by you ! This last one is beautiful, and you'll have to stitch another one for next year !
Bugs coming and going here too, it's the time of year, we cannot escape it !
Have a nice week -

I hope you're feeling better & that the cold didn't become worse. We've been trading around a head cold so every morning I give everybody a vitamin C + zinc tablet to take, and my husband is on orders to bring back bottles of Zicam tablets.

Your SIL's stocking is FABULOUS!! I will be putting Anna's stocking in the mail for you to finish up for me so you don't feel bereft at being done with Reed's stocking.

...

What? You don't want to do that? Sigh... it was worth a shot. ;) Enjoy your time with Shores.

Wow! Already done. Now you see how powerful suggestions can be, lol. It looks really great with all the embellishments. Looking forward to seeing it finished.
I hope your parent-teacher conferences are also done by now. We had ours last week during several evenings. I'm always so glad when they are over ...
