Reed's First Week

I have so little to show this week (sniff). I started Reed's Stocking last Sunday (that's eight days ago), and it's really all I've worked on all week. Of course, there wasn't that much stitching time last week, because I stayed late at school or went to school meetings three out of five days (she said whinily). On Friday (the day I long for), I went out with a group of teachers from my school that closed last year, which was extremely fun. I stitched terribly little Friday night, because my poor little eyelids just couldn't be forced to remain open very long after my butt hit the chair. The weekend was kinder, and (to make a short story long) some stitching was accomplished ...

I'm not sure I like the mixture of blues in this piece. I'm tempted to pull them out and use lavenders instead, but that's a lot of unstitching that I'm not really up for. Besides that, Nikki chose it, and she likes it. I'm wondering how much the DMC colors have changed since this stocking was designed. The Shepherd's Bush girls have changed one of the colors since then, but I think it looks a little funky. I suppose I'll just carry on and keep stitching.

Back to the progress thread of this post ... Anna said in a comment, "You could get the stocking done in three weeks definitely, possibly one and a half." Golly, I love her. Despite many previous posts containing visible evidence of my slow stitching, she thinks I'm capable of semi-fast stitching! That thought thrills me to death. When I first read her comment, I poo-pooed her estimate. But now that I've gotten this far, I may actually finish the silly thing in three weeks! Thanks for the encouragement, Anna! Nobody out there hold your breath, but I'm going for it. On October 1st, I'll have to make the decision to continue with the stocking and start Shores Block 3 after a finish, or begin Block 3 and go back to the stocking after that finish. I may go for the first option in the hope that the finisher (you really didn't think I'd sew it together, did you?) could have it to us by Christmas. And why am I boring all of you with this crap? I don't know! Maybe I needed to think it through. Thank you for your kind patience, those of you who are still awake.

I'm off now to get some stitching done before din din. Make some fun.

You're going great guns, Doris! I seem to remember when I stitched this one that I thought the blue was a little weird, too. Must have turned out alright 'cause I'm sure I didn't change anything. You'll get it done in three weeks, I'm certain! You've done a big chunk of it already.

Have a great week!

Wow, Doris, you're really truckin' right along with this one -- you've made great progress. I think I'm with you about the blues. They just don't seem quite right with the rest of the piece. I'm sure it'll be lovely regardless.

Your progress is GREAT! Slow-stitcher, indeed. You've proven yourself wrong! LOL. Good luck with your self-imposed deadline!

Aren't we confronted with tough decisions ? ;-)

You can do it! Seriously, not that I've ever stitched a stocking, but three weeks seems doable, LOL. I seriously wouldn't unpick anything, it will be gorgeous just the way it is.

Sounds like school is keeping you busy, poor thing. I bet you can finish the stocking in 3 weeks! It's looking good so far anyway! I hope you end up liking the colors. As for DMC changing colors -- eek! Do they change colors? I hope not!!! :D

Well, see, I'm not the only one. I always think the colors are a little odd on the stockings but when you get to the end, they are perfect! Maybe it's because I'm delirious from stitching the stockings in three weeks...

Hey there, Doris! The stocking is coming along great! Keep going and before you know it, it will be off to the finishers!

Lovely progress, Doris! I am working on one of the stockings--a recent girl's stocking--for my niece and can I say just how much I hate working with perle cotton and 18 ct linen???? Urgh. But the result is SO worth it. I think the blues look great--SBs always have a way of pulling together in the end.

You've made great progress for your limited stitching time. I think that once you get through this all the blues will look absolutely fine. I have no doubts you're going to finish this really quickly! It looks great!

I have patterns that I go HUH? when I finally get to stitching the color. I recently did that with the Blue House Sampler. The greens were really strange.
Anyway, glad you are having a good week.
Your progress looks great! I bet you stitch faster than me! I'm really slow, I think the older I get the slower I stitch.....LOL

I say go for it. You have some speedy needles going, and I think you can easily be done in three weeks. :) I have stitched 3 SB stockings and this one has been my favorite by far. I liked the blues, but I am not sure if I had the older DMC or the same as you. Seems like mine was a little darker maybe? I like it, but you have to go with what you like. :)

I can certainly relate to the eyelids dimming after a long day at the primary school.....BUT, dont poo-poo her idea...YOU CAN DO IT!~ You are doing great and just keep plugging thru~~ The progress you have made is incredible!~

Doris, you've made incredible progress in that short timeframe! Are you kidding me!? I actually like the blues...and after all, Nikki did choose this stocking! :]
Of course, you could make another one in the lavenders. I'm always fond of lavenders, as you know! LOL You guys have me challenged with the three week thing, now. Maybe I should do one for my grandson, Kellan!
Hugs,
Deb

The stocking is beautiful and I actually love all those blues. *And* I happen to agree with Anna in believing that you must be a fast stitcher. This amount of work would probably cost me about three months.
