Saturday Is Bath Day

What? Two days in a row? Don't get used to it.

I had to show you what I accomplished so early on a Saturday. You may remember my old man cat Merlin, aged 17 years. Even though he's suffering from kidney failure (used to be 20 pounds, now down to 11), he's still hanging in. Because he's so old, he doesn't take such good care of himself anymore, so he gets an occasional bath. Merlin would probably exact some hideous retribution (ie, pee in a corner, barf on the carpet ... oh, wait, he already does that) if he had any idea that I'm showing you these pictures. But I couldn't resist, and what he doesn't know won't hurt him. Here he is after his bath. Oh, and in the background is a piece of now-shriveled catnip I brought in for him last night.

I know (gasp)! Isn't he pitiful, but cute? Merlin's a little unsteady on his feet at times, but he's still jumping up on his favorite places. He's especially fond of jumping from my bed onto my lap while I'm stitching. You can just imagine how that turns out. He's our friend, so we'll take good care of him as long as we can. I can tell he's weaker, because this summer there hasn't been any bloodshed (never his blood, mind you) during our tub encounters. I almost feel bad that I don't have any wounds.

That's it for now. Make some fun.

Oh my goodness, 17 years is a pretty long life for a cat, isn't it? I haven't had one for years, so I don't remember. He does look somewhat pitiful, but in a debonair sort of way, I think.

Merlin looks upset with his bath but he sure has a good owner, I know that!
He reminds me of my little Ren. He will be 16 next month.
They do get a little feeble and it's sad but I love animals.

Aw, poor Merlin. You're so good to give him baths. We had a cat who lived to be over 20 -- we were never sure exactly how old he was since we inherited him with our house. He was a sweetie too -- Merlin reminds me of him somehow.

Merlin is lucky to have you! I thought he looked a little scruffy till I read your post! I've been MIA for a while - just way too much life going on but I've read thru all your posts and way to go with the de-stashing and hip-hip-hooray for your ATS getting framed so beautifully!

Glad you survived the first week of school and I wish you a wonderful year!

Poor, wet, mad, cute-as-heck Merlin. He just doesn't understand a bath is really a good thing. Oh, I promise I won't tell him you're posting his pic all over Blogland. Maybe. ;)

Merlin looks like a sweet boy. I am amazed he will let you bathe him. Glad your first week of school went well (I haven't had a chance comment on that post yet). Thank goodness for weekends!

Aw, Doris, you're a dear to give so much love and care to Merlin. Aren't our fur-children a comfort? I wish they could live as long as we do.

Fuzzy hugs to Merlin!

You're a good cat-mom, Doris, to give Merlin his baths. Looks like he's still spry enough to look thoroughly pi**ed off afterward, so that's a good thing!

Sweet Merlin, at least he is loved and knows it. I need to give my 16 year old Monica a bath soon, for the same reason that you bathe Merlin. They just don't keep themselves as clean, poor things!

Oh Merlin is such a handsome fella. God bless him that he has had such a long life, which I am sure is because he has had such good love and attention from you. I wish I could have a cat again, I have 3 dogs now and if I brought another pet I am sure my husband would leave me... hmm.. lol jk jk. Give Merlin some cuddles from me.
